Reddish of Roses

Preview edition — Poet of Blossom is still in progress. The poem is as it appears in the video; the commentary is a working draft.

I've plucked the freshest of roses this Val, bloom with a color so reddish

Their velvet petals are so soft to touch and mesmerising at sight

They have the hues of the sweetest aroma to set your heart aglow

Reddish as love's affection with warmth of passion

A floral gift I present to you, my true love

Commentary

This poem celebrates a gift of red roses, using colour, touch and scent to express the warmth of romantic affection. A simple bouquet becomes a symbol of passion offered to a true love.

The speaker has “plucked the freshest of roses” this Valentine season, and they bloom “with a color so reddish.” Their “velvet petals” are soft to touch and “mesmerising at sight,” drawing in more than one of the senses.

The roses carry “the hues of the sweetest aroma,” meant to “set your heart aglow.” The colour becomes a mirror for feeling: “Reddish as love’s affection with warmth of passion.” The poem ends as the speaker presents the flowers, “A floral gift I present to you, my true love.”
