Draft in the author’s style. This poem was written for Poet of Uplift to sit beside the author’s own readings, and is waiting for the author’s review. The commentary is a working draft too.

I opened up my window, and the morning breeze rushed in,
With the scent of jasmine flowers and the bird's first happy din.
I said a little thank you for the roof above my head,
For the water in the pitcher, and the softness of my bed.
I thanked the sun for rising, and the hands that baked the bread,
And the friends who called last evening and the words that they had said.
I thanked the stumbling lessons and the ones who made me cry,
For the strength I got from sorrow, and the wisdom by and by.
The list grew long as morning, and my heart began to sing,
For a thankful mind discovers that each day's a precious thing.
So start your day with thanking, and your troubles will grow small,
For gratitude's the doorway to the joy that's in it all.
