Val in Winter

I waited for winter for you Val, but you never came, snow fell in whispers, calling your name.

Frost traced the windows like frozen regret, and every breath I took—held you in it yet.

I dreamed of footprints side by side, fireside talks and a deep love we never tried.

But time was a thief, the wind pulled you far, leaving only echoes beneath the stars.

Now, winter wraps us in long-lost light, and finally, you’re here, the season feels right.

Your touch melts the cold I carried for years, Your laughter dissolves my fears.

So let’s walk where the snow forgets the past, where love, at last, is here to last.

No more waiting, no more missed calls.
just you and me on winter’s grounds.

Commentary

This poem is a poignant reflection on longing, reunion, and the enduring warmth of love against the backdrop of winter. It beautifully weaves themes of absence, yearning, and hope into a lyrical narrative that captures the emotional weight of distance and the joy of rediscovery.

The speaker expresses deep longing for Val, a love absent during the previous winter. Snow fell in whispers, calling her name, but she never arrived. The frost on the windows symbolizes frozen regret, an unresolved love lingering through time.

The speaker reminisces on "footprints side by side, fireside talks," and a love never fully realized. Time, likened to a thief, carried Val away, leaving behind only echoes beneath the stars— suggesting distant, unresolved emotions.

Now, the present winter is different. Val has returned, and with her arrival, the cold isolation melts away. The warmth of her touch and laughter replaces years of silent longing. The final lines affirm a new beginning—love, once lost in memory and missed calls, is now grounded in the present, walking forward in the snow together.
